New Tax Day: July 15th

Attention all procrastinators, you now have an extra THREE months to complete your 2019 income tax returns.  Under the Trump administration’s legal authority to move the statutory filing date for all Americans as part of the COVID-19 response, tax returns for individuals, trusts, and corporations (including payments) are now due July 15th for the 2019 tax year only.  This includes interest and penalties that would otherwise be assessed on the original April 15th due date.  See the following link for more details: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/payment-deadline-extended-to-july-15-2020

So what does this mean for you?  Well, if you’re entitled to a refund, don’t wait until July.  File now and get your hard-earned cash in your bank deposit rather than let it sit idle with the U.S. Treasury.  Don’t know if you’re entitled to a refund?  Contact Tax Accountability Services today to find out what you’re owed.

What about state returns, you ask?  All states have their own policies, but the Hawaii Department of Taxation recently followed suit with Announcement 2020-01 (https://files.hawaii.gov/tax/news/announce/ann20-01.pdf) moving Hawaii’s 2019’s due date from April 20, 2020 to July 20, 2020.
